Planning a wedding can feel like a whirlwind of to-do lists, Pinterest boards, and tiny details—but when the big day finally arrives, it’s all about soaking up every magical moment.

As a photographer working with couples across Nottingham and Derby and being apart of weddings myself as a bridesmaid, I’ve seen the behind-the-scenes of weddings—from teary-eyed first looks to last-minute lipstick fixes. So, here are my top 10 tried-and-true tips to help you actually enjoy your big day.

1. Start the Day with Intention

Take 10 minutes in the morning just for you. Whether it's journaling, deep breaths, or listening to your favourite songs, centering yourself early sets the tone for a calm, joyful day.

2. Don’t Skip Breakfast

Seriously—eat something! Wedding days are long, and you’ll want energy for all the dancing, hugging, and (yes) champagne sipping.

3. Plan Buffer Time into Everything

Running late causes stress. Whether it’s makeup, transport, or group photos, always add an extra 10–15 minutes just in case. It helps everything feel smooth and stress-free.

4. Choose Vendors You Actually Like

Your suppliers (especially your photographer ) are with you most of the day. Pick people you vibe with—it makes a huge difference in how comfortable and supported you feel.

5. Let Go of Perfection

Rain? Slightly off-centre flowers? Uncle Bob wearing novelty socks? Embrace it all. The best moments are often the unplanned ones.

6. Take a Breather Together

Ask your photographer to sneak you away for 10 minutes during golden hour or after the meal. No guests, no pressure—just the two of you soaking it in.

7. Wear Comfy Shoes (or Bring Spares!)

Whether you're wearing heels or brogues, your feet will thank you for a back-up pair when the dance floor opens up.

8. Appoint a Point Person

Pick a bridesmaid or close friend to handle minor issues, answer supplier questions, or track down a missing corsage. That way, you’re free to focus on the fun.

9. Be Present During the Ceremony

This is the moment you’ve waited for. Pause. Breathe. Look around. These few minutes are powerful—soak them in without worrying about the timeline.

10. Remember: It’s YOUR Day

Trends, opinions, and expectations can cloud your vision. But your wedding is about your love story. So do what feels right for you—whether that's a sparkler exit or a quick change into your Converse.
