If you’ve spent any time on TikTok recently you’ve probably seen the adorable DIY Christmas wrapping paper photoshoots going viral. Cute dogs popping their little heads through festive wrapping paper for the perfect Christmas card moment. Well after watching way too many of them I decided it was time to give it a go with my own dog.

Let’s just say… things didn’t exactly go to plan at first.

Setting Up the DIY Wrapping Paper Photoshoot

The idea is simple. You hang wrapping paper across a doorway or between table legs and cut a hole for your dog to peek through. Depending on how tall your dog is you’ll want their head to end up right in the centre of the paper.

To protect my walls I used frog tape which worked perfectly and didn’t peel anything off. Once the paper was up I cut a small circle in the middle. It wasn’t the neatest circle in the world but it didn’t matter, this was all for fun anyway.

Take One, My Beagle Had Other Plans

My two year old beagle was peacefully sleeping while I was setting everything up. When I called him over I could already tell he was thinking “what chaos is this woman making now?”

Instead of poking his head through the cute little hole like I’d imagined he walked straight through the entire sheet. Full body. No hesitation. The wrapping paper ripped within seconds. No photos. No wrapping paper. No chance.

Take Two, Treats Save the Day

Time to rewrap. I redid the bottom half of the paper and grabbed the ultimate motivational tool… treats.

This time he was a little too excited and honestly I was preparing for round two of destruction. But with a firm sit and wait he actually listened and stayed still long enough for me to position him.

And finally we got the magic.

I used the treat to guide his head in different directions which gave me a few adorable shots. He did so well and I genuinely think he loved the game once he realised treats were involved.

What’s Next Accessories

Next time I’m adding accessories. A cute bow tie a Christmas hat maybe even a tinsel collar if he lets me. Wish me luck because if the wrapping paper didn’t survive I’m not sure the hat will.

Final Thoughts

If you want a fun festive activity with your dog definitely try the viral wrapping paper photoshoot. Just be prepared for chaos torn paper and lots of laughs. It’s messy it’s unpredictable and it’s honestly such a cute memory to make.

See you in the next blog!
